- 2018 Season
All students will participate in a wide variety of daily musical and theatrical workshops to enhance their skills in each discipline. During camp, part of the camper’s experience will include rehearsing for their performance alongside Broadway stars and a full orchestra in the Jerry Herman: The Broadway Legacy Concert! Our instructors are leading professionals in the performing arts and the camp culminates in a spectacular night, the Performing Arts Camp Showcase highlighting the campers’ newly-honed talents.
We are also very proud to announce that Pocono Mountains Music Festival is one of four organizations in the U.S. to participate in the prestigious ASCAP Foundation Jerry Herman Broadway Legacy Prize. During the two-week Performing Arts Camp, award winning Broadway performers teach a masterclass culminating in two students receiving the Herman Legacy Prize honor. The two student winners will perform with the Broadway stars the following evening accompanied by our the Festival’s own Pocono Pops! orchestra.
All of our campers will train in the following disciplines:
Students will work with a leading Broadway Music Director to hone their skills in singing and performing in the style of Musical Theater. They will have daily workshops where they learn vocal technique, audition tips, various singing styles and gain a vast understanding of Broadway musicals. Each student will have the opportunity to sing and receive individual feedback by the Musical Director.
As part of our daily schedule, all campers will participate in a fun and energetic warmup to get ready for a full day of activities! Not a pro in dance? No problem! Even students with little experience will walk away from the program with a new appreciation for movement and the technique behind it, not to mention some moves of their own. Campers with more experience in dance will have an opportunity to hone their skills all under the direction of a Broadway Choreographer!
This year, we are excited to introduce tap dance to the Performing Arts Camp. Taught by one of New York City’s most acclaimed instructors, students will have a blast learning one of musical theater’s most exciting dance styles. Over the two-week session, students will learn core tap fundamentals and tap vocabulary, while focusing on proper technique. If you have your own tap shoes, great! If you don’t, the Camp will provide them.
Since the spectrum of Performing Arts is so wide, the Pocono Mountains Music Festival is dedicated to bringing the most comprehensive experience to our students by introducing them to every facet of the arts! So, every day, there will be one class that is always different, incorporating a wide variety of theatrical and musical opportunities. We lovingly call this our “Hodge Podge” Class. It is a chance for each student to identify a creative strength that they have and give them a chance to express it! Some areas we focus on are: instrumental music, scene work, theater games, improvisation, audition techniques, movie musicals, scenic design, and more.
